Interactive volumetric installation
Two proposal views of the MAD Biennial presentation: a live volumetric self-portrait, space-mouse plinth, hardware vitrine, and small community-film projection.
Overall presentation plan

The project

An interactive installation presented in NYC Makers: The MAD Biennial at the Museum of Arts and Design in 2014. A camera below a wall projection reconstructed each visitor as a live volumetric image. Using a 3DConnexion SpaceMouse on a waist-high plinth, the visitor could circle that image from viewpoints no physical camera occupied.

Installation notes

We presented the tool alongside the things it was beginning to make possible. The room was planned in three parts: the live self-portrait, several camera-and-sensor configurations, and Home Movies From The Future, a small projection of work made by people using RGBDToolkit. The proposal records the full plan; contemporary photographs confirm that the self-portrait was installed and operating.

My role

I co-designed the presentation and its live self-portrait, including the room layout, capture system, projection, and visitor controls.
